'Design A Poster' Competition Exhibition - Opens!

ImageToday the exhibition of entries for the St.Mirren & Show Racism The Red Card 'Design A Poster' competition officially opened at Paisley Museum & Art Gallery.

The competition was backed by Renfrewshire Council & promoted in local schools with the objective of taking the message that racism is not acceptable in the 21st Century to children, with Saints at the forefront of getting that message across in P5, 6 & 7 and there has been a quite simply terrific response.

Over 300 entries were received by SMiSA and a large selection of them are now on display at the museum, including the 6 winning entries.

The 6 winners were:

Overall Winner
Chloe Sword - Age 11, Bridge of Weir Primary

9 Year Old Age Group

All of the participants, whether their artwork has been displayed or not will recieve set of Show Racism The Red Card posters featuring the 06/07 Saints squad, Scotland Squad and Scotland Women's squad.  These posters will also be available free for a limited period at the Museum on a first come, first served basis.

5 of the winning entries will be made by SMiSA into posters that will be distributed in the local community, with the 6th being made into a T-Shirt, promoting the Show racism The Red Card Campaign.

The exhibition is open from today, Saturday April 7th to Friday April 13th.  Museum opening hours for the remaining days of the exhibition are:

Easter Sunday 2am-5pm
Easter Monday 10am-5pm
Tuesday to Friday April 13th - 10am-5pm

In closing, SMiSA wish to pay tribute to everyone who made the event possible, in particular Claire O'Hara from the Paisley Town Hall's staff for providing materials & resources to assist in the preparation of the entries prior to the exhibition's opening, and of course, the kids themselves who have shown such fantastic enthusiasm in getting the anti-racist message across so strongly and imaginitively.

Remember - at St. Mirren, we're all black AND white!
