SMiSA to host special Q&A night with St Mirren legends Peter Godfrey and Dougie Somner

SMiSA is delighted to announce that we will be hosting a special Q&A evening with two former St Mirren players, Peter Godfrey and Dougie Somner.

It promises to be a fantastic opportunity for supporters to hear first-hand stories from two players who played an important part in the history of our club, as they look back on their careers in Paisley, recall memorable moments and share some behind-the-scenes stories from their time as Buddies.

Both guests have plenty of St Mirren history to look back on.

Dougie Somner enjoyed a prolific spell at Love Street between 1979 and 1983, making 136 appearances and scoring an impressive 64 goals. His first season was particularly memorable, scoring 25 league goals to finish as the Scottish top-flight's leading scorer in 1979/80. He also played a key role in Saints' memorable Anglo-Scottish Cup triumph that season, scoring twice in the second leg of the final against Bristol City. Somner holds another special place in our history as the first player to score for St Mirren in European competition.

Peter Godfrey, meanwhile, made his mark during a six-year spell with the Buddies between 1985 and 1991. A hugely respected defender, he made 210 appearances for Saints and was part of an era that saw the club lift the Scottish Cup in 1987. Godfrey later recalled how injury and illness cruelly kept him out of both the semi-final and final that season, despite having played 40 league matches during the campaign.

Between them, Peter and Dougie have a wealth of memories and experiences from very different but equally special periods in St Mirren's history. This is a brilliant opportunity to hear those stories directly from the players themselves.
