Reaction from SMiSA Chairman to New SPL Reconstruction Proposals

Following the statement this past Monday 17th January that there is "broad support" from SPL clubs to progress with reconstruction plans to have a top flight of 10 teams with a second tier of 12 teams, SMiSA Chairman Alastair Colquhoun's reaction was as follows:

"It is very disappointing that this opportunity to arrest the steady decline of Scottish Football has been missed.

"The proposals ignore the views of fans as expressed through the Supporters Direct poll and other channels and will do nothing to make the product more attractive to the paying public who are already voting with their feet as illustrated by the growing sea of empty seats at SPL grounds.

"Businesses who continually turn a deaf ear to the wishes of their customers are unlikely to have a prosperous future."

A formal vote has yet to take place on the proposals, with any vote to change the SPL structure requiring a 10-2 majority to be successful.

On the morning of  Wednesday 12/01/2010 at Hampden Park, SMiSA Chairman Alastair Colquhoun & Webmaster David Tennant met with SPL Chief Executive Neil Doncaster to discuss and debate the proposed SPL reconstruction plans.  The meeting, which lasted over 90 minutes was, we believe, extremely useful and productive in gaining further insight into the plans on a number of fronts, as well as an opportunity of putting the concerns that St. Mirren supporters and indeed that fans of other clubs have about the proposals.

What follows is a detailed report of the meeting for the benefit of all St. Mirren supporters.

Fans Survey on SPL Reconstruction Plans launched

A survey has been launched to find out the views of St. Mirren fans on the SPL's plans for league reconstruction to a 2-tier setup of 10 teams each.

To participate in the survey and to register your views on the reconstruction plans, please click here.

The survey will run until January 14th at which time the views will be collated and sent to St. Mirren's General Manager, Brian Caldwell for the club's consideration.

Thank you and happy voting!

New Initiative - Future Saints

At St Mirren Football Club we have a long tradition of rearing our own players from the youth level to a full blown professional. Even though the Club has still maintained this tradition there is no argument that the numbers involved has dropped off as over the last couple of decades the game in general has gone in a different direction.

SMiSA - the St Mirren Independent Supporters' Association - have stepped forward to form a partnership with the Club that is hoped will kick-start the conveyor belt of talent that we witnessed in days gone bye.

Members Contact Details Required

SMiSA are seeking new contact details for two of its members - Michael Connolly and Kenny Cunningham, prior to a post-out being sent to the membership on an number of issues.

If anyone knows Michael and/or Kenny, or could assist in providing new details for either gentleman, could they please send the trust an email to assist us reaching them.  Thank you.
